CCNA Rules for Establishing a DIST List
Here are the new rules for getting new dist lists. Send your applications
to Don Ingram
Every application for a new list must have:
- A "petition" of at least 10 names of people wanting to be on such a list.
- A "welcome" document. This document may include anything, but must include:
a. the address of the maintainer.
b. the procedure for subscribing and unsubscribing
c. an explanation of how to post to the list
d. a description of acceptable and unacceptable use of the list
e. a formula for amending the welcome document
f. a description of the purpose of the list
g. the contact address for CCNA (manager@calcna.ab.ca)
Please note that the welcome document is the "charter" for the list. Anything not prohibited by this document is considered acceptable. No one may be removed from the list because of a rule not included in the document.
- A maintainer. The maintainer is responsible adding and deleting names from the list, in accordance with established procedures. The maintainer also must keep an up-to-date copy of the "welcome" document and send a copy to everyone who subscribes, as well as anyone who requests a copy. The maintainer must not subscribe people against their wishes. The maintainer must not unsubscribe people against their wishes (unless this is allowed by the welcome document). The maintainer must regard both the names and addresses on the list as private (unless the welcome document says otherwise).
- A name. The name must begin with "dist-". It is suggested that list names be short, easy to spell, and not easily confused with existing email addresses.
In addition, the CCNA reserves the right to refuse or revoke permission for any list at any time.
